There are certain sights you must see in Venice. Although Venice is somewhat compact, and you can walk from one end to the other in about an hour, it is not easy to find your way. The buildings are generally four or five stories tall, and the streets narrow, making it impossible to see things that are close by, or even just around the corner.
The city is medieval in its layout, and there is generally no such thing as "going around the block." There are no blocks. And it can be very confusing associating the map with what you are seeing in front of you. All over Venice you will see people staring at a map trying to find their way.
Whether you are in Venice for a few hours, a day or a week, taking one of our tours will make your stay more enjoyable.
If you are in town for a cruise, taking a day trip from somewhere else in Italy, or just spending a day or two in Venice, our tours will get you around easily to the important sights, while at the same time showing you some of the "hidden" Venice.
In Venice for a longer period? Our tours will help to orient you to the city.
So, rather than ticking away your precious time trying to find things, let us show you the way. We will take you from place to place without the necessity of looking at a map. We will point things of significance out to you, and give you a little history along the way. You will save valuable time, will have more fun, and will be able to get to the essential sights easily and without the frustration of getting lost.
And as always, our tours are personal and private - just you and your family or traveling companions, and guided only by one of us.
Four Hour Essential Venice: This tour consists of a walk in the St. Mark's Square area, where you will have the opportunity to go into the Basilica and the bell tower, if you like, and walk around the outside of the Doge's Palace, look at the Bridge of Sighs, and visit one of the famous cafés around the square. This is just a selection of the places you'll see, not the complete list.
You will experience the centuries old Rialto fish and produce markets, and see the shops along the Rialto Bridge, as well as the many other merchants in this historic area. We'll also share some of our favorite lesser traveled areas, and some local lore as we guide you through this captivating city.
Along the way you will have ample opportunity to take pictures, sample traditional Venetian food and drink, and of course, have a little gelato.
Six Hour Essential Venice: This tour will include everything in the four-hour tour, plus a stop for lunch (not included in the price of the tour), and additional time to explore some quiet "off the beaten path" neighborhoods, and a few other gems we like to show off in the course of the tour, which we keep secret.
The tours can be modified and customized, depending on your interests and the amount of time you have. There may be an additional fee for a customized tour, so please contact us with your request. Every tour we give is private – only for you and your group, which allows us to give you individualized attention. We can also tailor the day to your particular desires as much as possible. All tours conducted by either Mike or Karen. It's like having a personal friend in Venice.
Note that all of our tours move at your pace, and the actual sights you see in the course of a tour depends on the pace.
